Umami Japanese Bistro is preparing to open its second Baton Rouge location, taking over the former Tsunami Sushi restaurant at 1 Smart Way, near the intersection of Highland Road and Bluebonnet Boulevard.
The new restaurant will be located in the @Highland development, bringing another Japanese dining option to the growing Highland Road corridor.
Umami opened its original location at 3930 Burbank Drive in 2016 and has become a popular destination for creative sushi rolls, fresh sashimi, premium seafood, wagyu beef and Japanese-inspired cuisine.
The restaurant’s owners also operate Geisha Sushi With a Flair, which has two locations in the Greater Baton Rouge area, one in Prairieville and another in Denham Springs.
The expansion will give south Baton Rouge diners another opportunity to enjoy Umami’s menu in a new setting. The space offers a modern dining atmosphere in one of the area’s developing commercial corridors.
An official opening date has not yet been announced. Customers can follow Umami’s website and social media pages for updates as the new location takes shape.
