STIR Coffee House Celebrates One Year of Coffee, Community and Opportunity

STIR Coffee House on Airline Highway is celebrating its first anniversary this October, marking one year of serving great coffee while making a meaningful difference in the community.

Opened on October 31, 2025, STIR Coffee House was founded by Katie and Joel Jenkins with a mission that goes well beyond coffee. The locally owned business provides employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental differences, helping employees build confidence, develop job skills and gain independence.

Katie, who also founded Grace Therapy Center, recognized the challenges many young adults with developmental differences face when entering the workforce. STIR was created to help bridge that gap.

When the shop opened, approximately 80% of its employees were individuals with developmental or intellectual differences. STIR also partners with Strides, a nonprofit organization focused on helping these individuals develop job skills and find employment.

Great Coffee With a Greater Purpose

STIR serves locally roasted coffee from Ascension Roasting Company in Prairieville, along with teas from Fleur De Lis Tea Co. in Amite. The menu includes specialty lattes, cold brew, matcha, dirty sodas, pastries and other treats.

The coffee shop features a welcoming atmosphere with comfortable seating and free Wi-Fi, making it a great place to meet friends or get some work done.

As STIR celebrates its first year in business, its motto, “Grounds for Growth,” continues to reflect its mission of creating opportunities and building a more inclusive community.
